It has been long discussed whether people should learn a new language in their country or a foreign country. Some people would go to the cram school near their houses to learn languages, while others prefer to fly to foreign countries to learn languages. Each way has its own pros and cons. As far as I am concerned, I prefer to learn the language in the country where it is spoken.

First of all, when learning a language in a foreign country, people can immerse themselves in the environment where people all speak the language which they are learning. They can not only learn the language in classes but also practice what they have learned in the daily life. Take my cousin as an example. Before studying as an exchange student in the USA, she has studied English for almost six years. When staying in the USA, she had to do everything in English, such as grocery shopping, making reservations and ordering meals in restaurant. She felt that it was not until she had been a student in the USA that her English ability had a tremendous progress. Hence, I think that environment is a major factor for people to possess a good command of learning foreign languages.

Some people may claim that learning a language in a foreign country is a huge cost, and they do not have enough budget. As a result, those people prefer to learn a foreign language in a cram school or via the online tutor platforms. Compared with studying abroad, these learning methods are more suitable for people with limited time and budget. However, I still believe that it is more effective for people to learn languages in places where they are spoken since people can also learn the culture and lifestyle. It would be a great help for people to have a better understanding of the language that they are learning.

To sum up, if people have enough budget, I recommend them to learn languages in countries where they are spoken. It is the environment that provides more practice opportunities and makes learners have deeper cultural understanding of the language they are learning. Thus, they can learn the language more effectively.
