In this set of materials, the reading passage states that three theories to explain birds’ navigation, but the listening passage cites flaws with these theories.

First of all, the reading claims that birds tend to rely on the sun and stars to find their ways to go home. However, the listening indicates that the so-called heavenly body theory cannot explain why birds can still get the directions when it is rainy or cloudy. Besides, our ancestors knew that no one could count on celestial body for directions when they were invisible.

In addition, the article asserts that birds can memorize the special terrain features such as coastlines and mountains, so that they can identify the way back home. Nevertheless, the speech points out if the birds which never have the experience of travel, how to explain that they can still fly home.

Third, the text mentions that the magnetic field theory upholds that the bird’s heads includes slight mineral particles which help birds find the right direction. Nonetheless, the lecture illustrates that even if they can judge the right direction by magnetite, they still cannot interpret how long it will take for them to reach their destination.

In conclusion, the professor contends that none of the theories’ regarding birds’ navigation can perfectly illuminate birds’ migration presented in the reading.
