Nowadays, more and more students go to university for higher education. It is essential for universities to prepare adequate resources to attract students. Some people say that universities should have famous faculty to appeal to students to enroll in. However, as far as I am concerned, I think that universities should spend money on improving facilities since professional facilities play a more important role to affect students’ decisions.

First of all, students spend more time on self-learning and they care whether universities can provide well-equipped facilities to help them broaden their knowledge. Take my brother as an example. After attending a campus tour of a community university near our home, he decided to study at that university instead of leaving home for another university which had a better ranking. Since the community university just updated computer systems and offered free online courses accounts for all of the students, my brother can use the new computer in the library to take the programming courses that he is interested in during his free time. If the university had not improved the facility, it would not have appealed to students such as my brother to enroll in.

In addition, professors may provide poor teaching quality if they do not have adequate equipment in the class. Take my analytical course as a compelling example. Due to the limited budget, the university may not be able to install a data analytical software on each computer. Therefore, the professor has to demonstrate the analytical process in his computer in the class and ask the students to take turns to use the computers in the library to practice after class. It is an inferior solution because students cannot ask the professor question immediately when they have issues in operating the software. Hence, I would not recommend other prospective students to attend this university even though it has renowned faculty.

To sum up, I strongly believe that the university should spend money on improving facilities rather than hiring famous professors. This is because well-equipped facilities can help students do self-learning and provide better teaching qualities.
