Nowadays, more and more people view teamwork as an important skill. In the school, teachers set more group projects for students to complete. In workplace, employers encourage the employees to coordinate with others and build cross-functional teams. However, there are pros and cons of teamwork.

To begin with, teamwork can facilitate creativity and generate ideas. Human beings view the same thing with different perspectives. When working together, people can be more productive than work in isolation. For instance, in the past, the packaging of my company's products was designed by only one graphic designer. Boss decided to have the sales team join the process of packaging design. Each sales person shared different opinions to improve the packaging. Compared with the artist, sales people can take more customers’ viewpoint into account when designing the packaging. In the end, the sales volumes of our products with revised packaging increases 40 percentage. It is teamwork that makes us able to achieve such a good result.

In contrast, teamwork may lower the efficiency. It often takes longer time to reach a consensus with a group of people. Human beings have distinct personalities and workstyles. There may be conflicts in teamwork. As a result, it would be harder to make a decision. Take the example of packaging design again. Previously, the designer could complete the product packaging designing project within one month. However, after the sales team joined the packaging design process, it took more than two months for the designer to complete the project since he had to keep adjusting the design based on the diverse opinions from different sales. Hence, teamwork can be more costly on time and money.

To sum up, it is essential for people to possess teamwork skills. There are advantages and disadvantages of working in groups. Even though teamwork may decrease the efficiency of the work, it still can inspire people to come out new ideas and achieve unprecedented success.
