Professional athletes, such as football and basketball players, should not be paid the high salaries that they receive from their teams.

When sports news shows the salaries of those professional players, people may be astonished by how large the numbers are. Some people may say that it is too exaggerated to pay athletes such high salary, while others contend that those athletes deserve it. As far as I am concerned, it is not easy to become a professional athlete. Moreover, we will not be able to enjoy a wonderful ball game without the performance of those excellent players. Therefore, I think that teams should pay those players with high salaries.

To begin with, it costs a lot to cultivate a professional athlete. However, the career span of an athlete will not be as long as that of a normal person. Take my uncle as an example. He was a professional badminton player. My grandparents spent a lot to hire a renowned coach to give my uncle the best training. It was not until my uncle became a professional athlete did the financial condition of his family become better. He had played as a professional player only for seven years and got retired due to the injury. Without the high salaries that he earned when he was a professional player, he may have difficulty in supporting his own life now. Hence, it is important that athletes should have high income when they are professional players.

In addition, teams will not earn so much money without the hard work of those professional athletes. Millions of fans go to stadiums to watch ball games and support their favorite players. Besides the ticket sales, some sports teams also earn a lot of money from the sales of the memorabilia of famous players. Since the professional players bring so many businesses for their sports, they deserve the high payment from the teams.

In conclusion, because of the high training cost, the short career span and the excellent performance on the games, I believe that professional athletes deserve the high salaries paid by their teams.
